Not a set-up. This is just like I found it in a local supermarket parking lot.

Hoptimum: Hops on Maximum Overdrive!

The latest limited release from Sierra Nevada packs all the hop punch of an old-school 'Ali' knockout. Hoptimum Imperial IPA is a brain storm which came out of Sierra's annual "Beer Camp". This highly aggressive recipe contains Sierra's most recent proprietary whole-cone hop, used for aroma and dry hopping. Sierra keeps info on this hop under tight wraps. What they will tell you is that they use Simcoe, German Magnum, Citra and Chinook. Then two-row Pale, Golden Promise, Munich & Wheat malts are used to balance this unique brew.
Checking in at a whopping 100 IBU's and 10.4% ABV,  "Hopheads" should have no problem getting their taste buds around this one. The explosive flavor is a "left hook" to the pallet with grapefruit, lilac, cedar, and fruit, all culminating in a very dry, crisp  finish. If you are up for the challenge, give Hoptimum a try, before it's all gone. Cheers!

PERLA Chmielowa Na zdrowie!

With my girlfriend being of Polish descent, the trips with her mother to the local Polish deli inevitably include  bringing back one of Poland's local libations. On their most recent trip "Perla Chmielowa" found its way into my refrigerator.
Perla meaning "Perl" is brewed in Perla Lublin, established in 1846. Perla with its 100-year old tradition is considered to be the most popular beer in the Lubelszczyzna region of east Poland. Brewed with the Polish Lubin hop, which is traditionally used in pilsners and light lagers because of it's mild sweet character and delicate bitterness, Perla also uses the water from their own Oligocene deep well, giving this beer a crisp mouth feel without the the bite found in most import pilsners.
At 6.0% ABV, I found Perla to be a very sessionalble and satisfying beer. For a pilsner style beer it was tough for me to come up with a dish it might not pair well with, (okay, maybe not a dish of Chunky Monkey), but I'll keep testing and get back to you. Imported by Stawski Distributing out of Chicago, Perla is the perfect reason to seek out your local Polish deli or market. Na zdrowie!

Tis' The Season.....

As the weather turns colder, our thoughts turn to the holiday season. Time shared with family, friends and lots of  good cheer. As we all sit around a warm fire in our living rooms, or huddled around a crackling driftwood fire on some silent beach along the coast, raise a glass and toast your loved ones who are here, and those who are not.
Happy Hollidays to All!
